Podcasts are super popular right now, and it’s no wonder — they’re an easy way to hear a great story, either fictional or totally true. Here are some of my favorite podcasts for the spooky season leading up to Halloween!

Lore — The flagship program from Aaron Mahnke’s Grim & Mild production company, this is one of my favorite podcasts. Lore is an award-winning podcast about true life scary stories, exposing the darker side of history, and exploring the creatures, people, and places of our wildest nightmares. This remastered episode relates one of the classic American monster stories, the Jersey Devil.

The Haunted Road — Also from Grim & Mild, Amy Bruni, the star of television’s hit paranormal shows Kindred Spirits and Ghost Hunters, takes listeners on a guided tour of America’s most haunted locations, with the help of expert paranormal investigators who have actually been there. The latest episode features the Historic Mount Washington Hotel in Bretton Woods, NH, considered the epitome of a luxurious resort. But, for all of its beauty and romance, it holds a multitude of mysteries and ghosts that defy explanation.

The Midnight Library — This podcast is for those that prefer the more shadowy, mysterious things in life but maintain a sense of humor, albeit subversive … think Tim Burton. The Midnight Library is a place where you can go to hear a spooky old tale or dreary story to warm your chilled, dark heart … just a bit. In the first episode, “The Paris Catacombs”, hosts Miranda Merrick & Mr. Darling tell the fascinating story of how 6 million skeletons made their way beneath the streets of Paris.

Astonishing Legends — A podcast exploring the strange, unusual, and unexplained. where co-hosts Scott Philbrook & Forrest Burgess do deep dives into the paranormal. The first episode, “Hollywood Ending”, is about what The City of Angels gives back when you come seeking fame and fortune and includes a death tour among the Hollywood Hills with a visit to a particularly macabre destination at the end.

History Goes Bump — A podcast dedicated to the side of history that goes bump in the night. Episodes feature interviews and discussions about historic locations, events or persons and the hauntings associated with them, plus listener experiences. In the seventh Halloween Special from 2020 the theme is Horror Hosts! We share about some of our listeners’ favorite horror hosts and the history of how these quirky characters got started. Then we share real paranormal experiences from our listeners.

Spooked — Now in its 4th season Spooked features true-life supernatural stories, told firsthand by people who can barely believe it happened themselves. Created in the dark of night by Snap Judgment and WNYC Studios.
