Recently, NPR invited listeners to nominate and vote for what they considered to be the best sci-fi and fantasy books of all time. 60,000 votes later, they determined the top 100. Note you won’t find any young adult novels on the list, so no Harry Potter or The Hunger Games; those will likely be included in a survey of the best young adult novels sometime next year.
So, by order of popularity, here are the Top 10 Science Fiction and Fantasy novels:
-
The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien
-
The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
-
Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card
-
The Dune Chronicles by Frank Herbert
-
A Song of Fire and Ice Series by George R.R. Martin
-
1984 by George Orwell
-
Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
-
The Foundation Trilogy by Isaac Asimov
-
Brave New World by Aldous Huxley
