Here’s a look at some current and upcoming feature films and streaming series based on classic and recent books…

Killers of the Flower Moon is an American epic Western crime drama film directed and produced by Martin Scorsese, who co-wrote the screenplay with Eric Roth, based on the 2017 book of the same name by David Grann. In theaters October 20, 2023.

Its plot centers on a series of Oklahoma murders in the Osage Nation during the 1920s, committed after oil was discovered on tribal land.


All the Light We Cannot See' Character Posters - Netflix TudumAll the Light We Cannot See is an upcoming American drama limited series directed by Shawn Levy and developed by Steven Knight for Netflix. Based on Anthony Doerr’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name, it stars Aria Mia Loberti, Mark Ruffalo and Hugh Laurie. Available to stream on Netflix beginning November 2, 2023.

The four-part series follows the stories of a blind French girl named Marie-Laure and a German soldier named Werner, whose paths cross in occupied France during World War II.


The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes — An upcoming American dystopian science fiction action film directed by Francis Lawrence from a screenplay by Michael Lesslie and Michael Arndt. It is based on the 2020 novel The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins, which is a prequel to Collins’ bestselling Hunger Games series. In theaters November 17th, 2023.

Set 64 years before the events of the first film, the book and film follow a young Coriolanus Snow and the events that eventually lead him on the path to becoming the tyrannical leader of Panem.


Wonka is an upcoming musical fantasy film directed by Paul King, who co-wrote the screenplay with Simon Farnaby. It tells the origin story of Willy Wonka, a character in Roald Dahl’s 1964 novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. In theaters December 15th, 2023.

The film stars Timothée Chalamet in the title role of Willy Wonka, featuring his early days as an eccentric chocolatier.


The Boys In The Boat — An upcoming American biographical sports drama film co-produced and directed by George Clooney from a screenplay by Mark L. Smith, based on the 2013 book of the same name by Daniel James Brown. In theaters December 25th, 2023.

Brown’s bestseller tells the story of the 1936 University of Washington’s eight-oar crew team, composed of the sons of loggers, shipyard workers, and farmers who had mastered collegiate rowing. The team competed at the Berlin Olympics where they defeated Adolf Hitler’s German team to achieve the Olympic gold medal.


The Color Purple is an upcoming American musical coming-of-age period drama film directed by Blitz Bazawule from a screenplay by Marcus Gardley, based on the stage musical of the same name, which in turn is based on the 1982 novel of the same name by Alice Walker. In theaters December 25th, 2023.

The book, musical and film tell the story of the life-long struggles of an African American woman living in the south during the early 1900s.


Dune: Part 2 — The upcoming 2024 American epic science fiction film is directed by Denis Villeneuve, who co-wrote the screenplay with Jon Spaihts. The sequel to Dune (2021), it is the second of a two-part adaptation of the 1965 novel Dune by Frank Herbert. In theaters March 15th, 2024.

Dune: Part 2 continues the story of Paul Atreides as he unites with the Fremen people of the desert planet Arrakis to win the war against House Harkonnen.
